Team U leads the first and only intercollegiate fundraising endurance team, dedicated to improving global health and alleviating poverty while promoting healthy lifestyles.


Board of Directors

Team U is proud to have the following members as part of the board of directors. A talented group of individuals from a variety of backgrounds united in upholding the Team U vision.

Joe Benun, Board Chairman
Joe Benun is a health/fitness nut from the Jersey Shore. As a personal trainer, he founded and coached several nonprofit sports teams, including Team U, which he led for four years. Separately, Joe is the cofounder and operations lead at Good St., board member of Music is Medicine, and founding board member of the African Peace Center. Joe blogs occasionally, is a proud audiobook evangelist, and is currently working on the nonprofits and various tech/startup initiatives.
 
Anthony Caponiti
Anthony is the Co-Founder and Partner of Activ8Social, a sports & lifestyle digital marketing agency. While leading up the agency, Anthony has developed various technology and media platforms including FanScore.com and HashtagSports.com. Prior to Activ8Social, Anthony co-founded StarBurbs, a startup focused on syndicating sports social media content, after beginning his professional career at IBM as a Strategy & Change Consultant. Anthony graduated from the Goizueta Business School at Emory University where he was a captain of the NCAA track & field team. He is now an avid marathoner and intramural sports enthusiast. Anthony is originally from the Washington, DC area and currently resides in NYC in the heart of Silicon Alley.
Dr. Rob Gilbert
Dr. Rob Gilbert is one of the world’s leading experts on Sport Psychology. As a professor at Montclair State University, he teaches Sport Psychology and also researches athletic motivation and teamwork, studies that have helped literally thousands of athletes defeat their mental problems. He has studied the mental skills of not only the world’s greatest athletes, but also the most successful business executives and highest-earning salespeople.
Shannon McGue
Shannon works with chapter presidents and other leaders on the Executive Operations Board to develop chapters and further Team U's mission. She first became involved with Team U in the fall of 2011, and served as Princeton Chapter President (2013-14), Triathlon Chair (2014-15), Half Marathon Chair (2012-13). She graduated from Princeton in 2015 with a degree in Evolutionary Biology, and has had the opportunity to work in health care in India and Ghana. Now, she is a health policy associate at a DC nonprofit and plans to attend medical school in fall 2016. In her free time, she can be found training for a trail marathon or reading at a coffee shop.
Shubhro "Shu" Saha
Shu is a runner and triathlete from California, where he currently works as a software engineer at Facebook. A geek at heart, Shubhro has developed hacks ranging from rich web applications to talking computers. When he's not at his keyboard programming, you'll find him cycling with friends around the bay area.
